VP Underwriting, Regional Manager (Finance)



JOB DESCRIPTION

Chubb is seeking a Regional PRV/NFP Manager for the Midwest I Region, encompassing the following branches: Chicago, Schaumburg, Milwaukee and Des Moines to drive leadership, growth, and profit for Private/Nonprofit (PNP) financial lines business. The region consists of managing both regional and branch operations that generate a combined PNP gross written premium of approximately $100M (excl. MW PE team) and responsibilities over 11 field production underwriters/managers. The Regional Financial Lines Manager will report into the Central Zone PNP Production & Distribution zonal manager. This position will be located in Chicago.

Responsibilities:

Revenue Generation and Distribution Management:

  • Regional P&L accountability for premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans/results.
  • Meet or exceed divisional performance relative to submission growth and quote to submit ratios.
  • Manage execution of underwriting strategies and proper risk selection to ensure the profitability of the regional PNP portfolio.
  • Articulates strategies and priorities internally with the PNP team, regional branch and commercial insurance colleagues, and externally with producers and clients.
  • Provides referral resource including managing capacity deployment, attachment profile, use of reinsurance and diversification of product mix to maximize profitable growth and manage volatility.
  • Directs business development and underwriting activities and provides guidance for implementing sales and marketing strategies.
  • Build, maintain and leverage meaningful relationships with key regional brokers and agents.
  • Represent Chubb North America Financial Lines in the regional marketplace amongst brokers, customers, competitors and industry organizations; must be able to play a key leadership role accordingly.
Talent Management:
  • Leads all Financial Lines Branch Managers and PNP underwriting teams embedded in the region.
  • Oversees workflows, staffing resources and appropriate application of technology to ensure efficient, cost-effective field operation. Aligns regional talent to adapt to changes in Chubb strategy or the marketplace.
  • Strategically develops a talent plan across the region, including the active demonstration of support for diversity and inclusion. Review authority and officer titling for team semi-annually.
  • Ensures the completion of all phases of performance management (i.e., development planning, goal setting, mid-year and year-end reviews) and compensation for the territory.
  • Ensure effective leadership in talent management across the region.
  • Meet regularly with branch managers & underwriters to offer and solicit feedback regarding performance, business results, key deliverables and best practices. Coach and mentor underwriting staff through account referral process.
  • Encourage engagement in internal training sessions and attendance at external industry marketing and training events.
  • Actively seek and identify key external talent through marketplace interaction.
  • Obtain feedback from brokers/clients relative to team performance.
Leadership & Accountability:
  • Ensure self and team completely and thoroughly understands the strategies being implemented by the division and execute accordingly.
  • Drive financial goals/objectives for the region. Create and execute on tactical plans to reach financial objectives.
  • Develop and maintain active relationships with REO, RCOO, and Commercial Zone Managers to drive business unity within Chubb North America.
  • Communicate and collaborate across business units, divisions, and with branch administration to articulate NAFL priorities and results.
  • Actively support, engage with, and adapt to new technology solutions (including but not limited to ProVI, Studio, and Duck Creek).
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, authority statements, divisional underwriting procedural documents, and legal and Chief Underwriting Officer mandates.
  • Communicate effectively with your team to drive collective priorities and emphasize financial performance and operational improvements.
  • Manage forecasts accurately and timely.
