NEPM News Intern - Summer 2025 (Project Management)

As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

NEPM is a multi-media organization producing and broadcasting radio, TV and digital content to western Massachusetts from our studios in Springfield. Our public radio services offer a mix of NPR news, classical and jazz. 

JOB OVERVIEW

Students will work alongside NEPM's experienced news team, learn the basics and produce stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels. This position does not have a remote option; it is based in NEPM's office in downtown Springfield.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pitch story ideas to the Radio News Director and Managing Editor — Daily and Digital News
  • Work independently and with other reporters to cover daily and enterprise stories in western Massachusetts and beyond.
  • Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.
  • Report, voice and mix broadcast and digital stories.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Interested in journalism and public affairs
  • Familiarity with news writing required
  • Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
  • Ability to work under deadline
  • Access to a car and ability to drive is preferred but not required
  • Collaborative approach and nature
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work and presentation
  • Willingness to learn
  • Punctual

JOB-STATUS

Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time). 8 hours per week.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

  • Dates: June 9th to August 15th
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program (or recent graduates) and have work authorization for the United States.
