Senior Partner Solution Engineer (Finance)



Job Description:

This position is responsible for being the subject matter expert for one of Vertex's Partner Ecosystems. Accountable for supporting the Ecommerce Partner Ecosystem/Vertex sales cycles from a product roadmap, feature/functionality, and integration perspective, focusing on support and enablement of Ecosystem platform and channel partners who are implementing Vertex solutions. Additional responsibilities include e-commerce knowledge transfer to sales engineers, supporting sales and consulting personnel in strategic sales and customer engagement opportunities, and being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for partner marketing resources and thought leadership at Partner events.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for driving business to revenue targets by supporting the E-commerce Partner team priorities and strategic partnerships with specific Ecosystems and Channel Partners.

  • Responsible for training and enablement of internal/external stakeholders on Vertex Ecommerce integrations, tax knowledge, and integration functionality, and its users' specific technical, compliance, and business needs.

  • Provides domain Partner ecosystem expertise related to tax/technical/functional knowledge related to the Partner Ecosystem integrations, enhancements, and new initiative opportunities that feed into the Ecosystem Integration Product Roadmap.

  • Drives Vertex awareness through the channel and sales ecosystem as a functional/technical resource by teaming with Vertex Channel/Alliance Managers.

  • Requires close engagement with Product Management on Integration roadmap planning for product enhancements, along with new Partner products being released.

  • Provides strategic technical/functional partner domain to Ecosystem Leader and Product Manager in planning efforts to align with Partner Ecosystem integration strategy.

  • Serve as the main POC for Sales Teams on technical integration questions.

  • Engage with Support on customer and partner support tickets.

  • Work with the Solution Engineer counterpart for external enablement, access to development environments, and serve as the main technical POC externally.

  • Manage Certifications with partners to ensure compliance.

  • Requires cross-organizational leadership/collaboration to interact with product management, engineering, support, customer success, product marketing, partners marketing, and sales.

  • Delivers Sales Enablement sessions with Ecosystem Partners and Ecosystem sellers from a tax/technical perspective.

  • SME to create/provide input for partner marketing messaging, positioning, and value differentiation.

  • Serves as SME for Direct and Indirect Sales teams, Business Development, Consulting, and Product Support - Participating in sales conference calls, meetings, and in RFP execution.

  • Be recognized as a thought leader in both domestic and foreign indirect tax/technology for the Partner Ecosystem through conference presentations, webinars, blogs , and industry group events.

  • Provide Partner Ecosystem expertise for go-to-market activities - Launch activities, partner enablement, internal/external training, etc.

  • Participates in projects and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Occasional business travel may be required .

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Shopify, Adobe, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and Commer ce tools.

  • Knowledge of Marketplace and Sub-Billing platforms.

  • Comfortable communicating commerce market trends, buyer journey, and industry-specific use cases.

  • Strong grasp of domain-specific vocabulary specific to E-commerce (Food & Bev, B2B, Retail, CPG, etc ).

  • Strong technical and functional knowledge of the Salesforce Platform.

  • Strong ERP business process knowledge and how e-commerce solutions integrate with the ERP.

  • Strong technical/functional troubleshooting capability (how problems arise and can be resolved).

  • Understanding of why Sales Tax is an integral part of the e-commerce checkout.

  • Experience working in teams and coordinating with external client relationships.

  • Experience developing relationships.

  • Manage multiple, complex relationships successfully.

  • Ability to assess customer and business expectations.

  • Ability to establish clear client objectives , approach, process, and plan to achieve the promised value of Vertex Indirect Tax solutions.

  • Experienced in identifying Market opportunities and translating them into product concepts, articulating value proposition, competitive differentiation, and defining commercialization strategies.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to influence at all levels within the organization.

  • Strong working knowledge of Sales Tax Automation software is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Influencing and negotiation skills - ability to influence and negotiate when faced with opposing views or resistance.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.

  • Ten (10) plus years of experience required in E-commerce ecosystem solution engineering, software development, and/or implementation.

  • ERP, Tax/Tax Technology, or Tax Professional Certifications and/ or Credentials recommended.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
