Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician Intern supports production operations by assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of coffee processing and packaging equipment. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in equipment operations, preventative maintenance, and production support while learning from experienced maintenance professionals. The intern plays a key role in helping ensure equipment runs safely, efficiently, and consistently to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the monitoring of production processes from the receipt of green coffee through the delivery of finished product to packaging.
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of equipment such as automatic roasters, grinders, and transfer machinery.
  • Follows established cleaning procedures for equipment to ensure compliance with quality and sanitation standards.
  • Observes equipment performance, identifies irregularities, and assists in making adjustments to maintain optimal conditions.
  • Participates in troubleshooting activities to help optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
  • Performs routine quality checks, including moisture and color analysis, under supervision.
  • Assists in preventative maintenance tasks such as lubrication and cleaning, and records activity in equipment logs and the Master Cleaning Schedule (MCS).
  • Gains exposure to high-speed packaging equipment and supports operations to help maintain product quality and production efficiency.
  • Aids in machine changeovers, basic mechanical adjustments, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Collects and records quality and performance data, including downtime logs and production metrics.
  • Maintains accurate reporting through daily production summaries and system entries in SAP.
  • Supports maintenance technicians in machinery repairs and upkeep as assigned.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties as necessary

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Current enrollment in an advanced technical degree or university REQUIRED.
  • 0-1 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to operate electric pallet jack, forklift, hoist, and various hand and power tools.
  • Familiar with industrial and mechanical terminology.
