Production Test Technician (Engineering)

Job Summary:
The Performance Test Technician I is responsible for performing drive testing, post-processing drive data, and supporting calibration tasks to ensure products meet performance standards. This role includes loading and unloading the drive test van, conducting the drive tests, and working with other teams to support the final stages of product readiness. The technician may also assist with other calibration activities and contribute to shipping and documentation when needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

Drive Testing and Data Processing

  • Load and unload the drive test van, ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for testing.
  • Perform drive testing to evaluate product performance under real-world conditions.
  • Post-process drive test data to analyze performance metrics and identify any anomalies or issues.
  • Assist with pushing devices out of non-magnetic sheds for calibration as needed.

Calibration and Firmware Management

  • Assist with device calibration, particularly for devices needing to be moved out of non-magnetic sheds.
  • Load authentication codes and Ublox firmware onto devices to ensure proper functionality.
  • Conduct heavy tests on devices to validate performance in demanding conditions.

Support Shipping and OPTO Calibration

  • Provide occasional assistance with shipping tasks, ensuring devices are properly prepared and ready for delivery.
  • Support OPTO calibration efforts when required to verify device accuracy and functionality.

General Testing and Hardware Support

  • Utilize basic knowledge of final performance verification (PRMS) and Static Test Tools (STT) to contribute to the testing process when needed.
  • Support calibration and testing efforts for various electronic devices and systems.

Collaboration and Reporting

  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to ensure devices meet performance and quality standards.
  • Provide feedback on drive test results and other testing processes to improve performance.
  • Document test results and any issues encountered during testing for future analysis.

Health and Safety

  • Follow strict safety protocols when handling testing equipment and during drive testing.
  • Adhere to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety standards when working with sensitive components.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Must possess a valid class D  Driver's license.
  • Clean driving record
    • No recent major traffic violations (e.g., DUIs, reckless driving).
    • Minimal points on the license
  • Medical Clearance
    • A basic health screening or DOT medical exam may be required to ensure the driver is physically fit.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • [Optional: Related technical certifications or experience].

Experience

  • Prior experience driving vans or similar-sized vehicles.
  • Familiarity with GPS and route planning
  • Defensive Driving Training a plus

Technical Skills

  • Comfortable using Windows, macOS, or Linux (e.g., opening files, using the terminal or command prompt).
  • Understanding file types, folders, paths, and how to move, copy, or rename files.
  • Familiarity with basic shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Alt+Tab)
  • Basic  computer program  troubleshooting.

Working Conditions

  • Clean, organized testing environment, with occasional work in the field during drive tests.
  • Standard working hours, with occasional overtime as needed.
  • Regular use of drive testing equipment, calibration tools, and firmware management systems.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to load and unload testing equipment for drive tests and calibration.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when handling devices or testing equipment.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while conducting tests and processing data.
