Job Description
Primary Function of Position

The New Product Development Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the development, documentation, and validation of new product design and maintaining the NPD Lab.
The Technician will support design engineers to build, rework, test and characterize new prototypes. The ideal candidate will have excellent organization and time management skills, and be proficient in design, manufacturing, and testing processes. They must excel in a highly motivated team environment focused on cutting edge technology and possess exceptional communication skills to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders. The candidate should be resourceful with a 'can do' attitude and comfortable working with minimal supervision and work instructions.

Essential Job Duties

  • Follow Instructions and provide engineering evaluation on any technical issues.
  • Perform quick triage of the issue and recommend the best course of action to keep the project moving. This includes performing simple reworks on the spot such as cable crimping, solder components, tap threads, clean optics, adjust alignment, etc.
  • Document all activities during escalation support in formal records.
  • Diagnose failures on Systems for system level failures, sub-assembly failures, and test fixture failures.
  • Perform failure analysis down to component level, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
  • Proactively provides feedback to management and engineering regarding quality, and workmanship issues.
  • Execute engineering level tests and collect data to support design of experiment activities or characterize a device.
  • Review non-conforming parts in MRB, analyze failures in detail, make decisions on dispositions, and document all findings in formal records.
  • Perform root cause investigation on non-conforming materials and provide feedback to engineering for quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to resolve manufacture, process, and quality issues.
  • Support engineering with electronics/PCA programming and functional testing in the early phase of new product to shake out bugs and suggest improvements.
  • Cross-train or mentor others in areas of expertise.
  • Perform other engineering technician duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience required.
  • Experience with soldering, electrical / small mechanical assembly, and component-level electronics debug and repair
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Manual dexterity to assemble very small components, either with microscope or other magnification
  • Ability to perform prototype testing per written protocol or verbal instruction
  • Hands-on experience building mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, or equipment, with some electrical or pneumatic assembly
  • Experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies
  • Ability to perform mechanical fabrication using machine and hand tools.
  • Ability to perform Soldering and Build Cables.
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to perform functional testing and failure analysis to a component level
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Linux based apps, ability to learn to navigate internal computer systems

Required Education and Training
  • Minimum AS in Electrical Engineering or related degree or equivalent.
  • Open to new college graduates with BSEE Degree.

  • Manage lab resources, computers, organization, layout, supplies, and equipment
  • Demonstrate hand- on ability to visually detect electrical defects/non-conformances of materials, determine solutions, and repair them in a fast-paced environment.
  • Install, test, and inspect electrical components, equipment, and systems
  • Manage equipment calibration
  • Maintain and organize the advanced energy lab space and equipment
  • Prepare instruments and generators for pre-clinical labs
  • Organize, oversee, and collaborate with other groups to assemble and test prototypes

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $48 USD - $65 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $41 USD - $55 USD
