Structural Engineer - (Asset Advisory and Due Diligence) (Finance)

Role description:

We are seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in due diligence and seismic risk assessments to join our team of experts. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise in due diligence activities, seismic risk assessments, and structural evaluations, contributing to our commitment to delivering exceptional engineering solutions to our clients. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on challenging and impactful projects, including seismic evaluations, structural assessments, and ensuring compliance with building codes and standards.

The successful candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license and have a strong background in performing Property Condition Assessments (PCAs), Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs), and Seismic Risk Assessments (SRAs), along with conducting structural calculations and evaluations.

At Arcadis, we take pride in our ability to advise our clients on strategic real estate decisions through identification of key risks, aid in the understanding of severity and quantification of these risks and provide recommendations for mitigation. Our advice needs to ensure that our clients achieve maximum value from their built assets with a clear understanding of risk. The role includes predominantly Technical Due Diligence along with some Project Management across a range of building types, although largely commercial.

Role accountabilities:

The position includes a relatively high level of responsibility and accountability with an opportunity to develop managerial as well as technical knowledge and skills, and to progress within a successful and growing specialist team.

Assessment Activities

  • Conduct thorough Property Condition Assessments (PCAs) and Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs) to evaluate the overall condition of buildings and facilities.
  • Inspect and assess structural systems, including framing, foundations, walls, and roofing.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and compliance considerations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and construction professionals, to provide comprehensive solutions.

Structural Engineering Expertise
  • Analyze existing built assets to determine their resilience to seismic activity and recommend upgrades or retrofits as needed.
  • Perform detailed structural calculations to evaluate the safety, performance, and compliance of building systems and components.
  • Delivery of seismic evaluations and design solutions to address earthquake risks and structural vulnerabilities.

Project Management

  • Manage seismic evaluation programs including training and support of junior staff.
  • Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and team members to provide updates and address questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate with contractors and project teams to review construction documents and resolve structural issues during project execution.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, seismic evaluations, and assessments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

Skills and Competencies
  • Proven expertise in seismic design and analysis techniques, including retrofitting and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, building codes (such as IBC, ASCE 7, and ACI standards), and seismic regulations.
  • Experience performing PCAs and FCAs, with the ability to evaluate structural integrity and recommend repairs or upgrades.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate calculations and reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Proficiency
  • Familiarity with seismic modeling and design tools.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques and building materials.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
