Mid-Level Civil / Geotechnical Engineer (Finance)



The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Mid-Level Civil / Geotechnical Engineer to provide project investigation and engineering design services under the supervision of a senior engineer. Projects may include a focus on renewable energy market, public and private infrastructure, environmental cleanup sites, mine development and reclamation, and oil and gas. Mid-level Civil / Geotechnical Engineers will provide project investigation and engineering design services while working with junior and senior engineers and project managers. Typical tasks can include engineering design development, development of engineering cost estimates, development of bid specifications, grading and drainage designs, hazard studies and mitigation, civil construction, soil and rock analyses, field instrumentation and monitoring, materials inspection, and more as assigned. Position is available in one of our local offices in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Utah.

Your Role:

  • This position will have field and non-field related responsibilities. Field work and travel may include occasional nights and weekends.
  • Assist Senior and Principal Engineers with engineering design development.
  • Prepare concise and clear written documentation of project activities in the form of field logs and notes, technical memoranda, and section of technical reports. Preparation of data for input into technical reports, data tables, charts, and figures.
  • Lead and conduct field tasks associated with environmental sampling, geotechnical drilling, construction oversight and coordination, and site reconnaissance.
  • Collection of environmental samples, operation of field equipment, data entry and analysis, document review, environmental assessments, site inspections, etc.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and scopes of work.
  • Management of tasks and projects in compliance with client contracted scope, schedule, and budget agreements.
  • Proactive identification of impending out of scope conditions, bring them to the attention of the lead Tetra Tech engineer, and assist in the development of solutions to mitigate project impacts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related field. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of technical experience related to engineering services / consulting, commercial and industrial business, geotechnical-related engineering, civil related engineering, data collection and design, site characterization, remedial action implementation, etc.
  • PE license is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and perform field data collection and construction oversight.
  • Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized reports and engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Familiarity with lab testing and construction materials testing.
  • T ailing (mining) experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with database development and management, AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS, HEC programs, or GOLDSIM is desirable.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and MSHA certification preferred.
  • Ability to traverse large terrain and lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to travel and perform field work (50% or more of field work required).
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Target salary range: $90,000 to $110,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
