Plant Manager - Thomasville, PA (Finance)

Position Overview

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading all shifts of the manufacturing and shipping of bulk, bagged and pelletized products at the Thomasville operation to ensure customer demands are met or exceeded through safe, cost effective and operationally sound production activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job and team. Be familiar with and follow the CRH Life Saving Rules in compliance with all regulatory agencies (e.g. MSHA, DEP, etc.).
  • Establish, communicate, and assign job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within the department.
  • Oversee and coordinate daily production activities through Production Supervisors, Leads and Production Associates to drive continuous improvement and optimize use of resources, equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Work closely with the Production Scheduler to ensure production and maintenance planning aligns with customer and operational needs.
  • Conduct or direct training of employees to improve work performance and motivate work force to accomplish both location and company objectives.
  • Implement and lead continuous improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommend changes in training, working practices, and processes.
  • Applies knowledge of production principles and practices to assist with investigation of improvement ideas and resolution of problem areas.
  • Identify and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions for timely resolution.
  • Initiate plans and processes which minimize costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and capital while continually adapting to short and long-term production needs.
  • Participate in plant staff meetings, team meetings and on-call duties.
  • Track staffing requirements and act as the hiring manager for needed personnel.
  • Address employee issues and provide resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Support communication between associates and the management team.
  • Ensure open lines of communication with all customers, internal and external, to meet their needs in a satisfactory manner.
  • Dedicate time to succession planning and people growth through coaching and training.
  • Performs other job-related duties as needed.
  • Travel as necessary.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; College Degree preferred
  • Five or more years of industrial operations or related supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with navigating federal, state and local regulations
  • Experience operating and/or leading in a union environment, preferred

Requirements

  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Strong leadership and management skills. Individual must exhibit professional ability to deal with others and to create constructive working relationships and an overall positive working environment.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills; ability to work well under tight deadlines, assist in the resolution of technical problems, and manage ambiguous information effectively.
  • Self-starter and able to take responsibly and initiative upon themselves.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and coordinate multiple activities and delegate activities to the workforce.
  • Must be self-confident; make critical decisions on a timely basis; think outside the box and be proactive vs. reactive.
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work various times during day, night or weekend hours.
  • May require the ability to climb ladders, lift heavy objects weighing up to fifty pounds, enter confined areas, and be exposed to extreme temperatures and dusty environments.
