Program Manager and Underwriter, Program Business (Commercial P&C)(Remote) (Finance)

We are recruiting for a Program Manager and Underwriter, Program Business to join our team.  This role can sit remote from most locations in the U.S. 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Engagement in all aspects of assigned program to include but not limited to management, execution, and delivery of a program's production, performance, growth and coverage strategies.  This also includes market analysis of pricing, products and services for program business within Amerisure target classes.  In some cases, the role will also manage an MGA relationship which may include additional responsibilities to include underwriting audit reviews and referrals for accounts outside of the MGA's authority. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Market, evaluate and price products and services for program business within Amerisure target classes of business.

  • Annually set business plan for upcoming year addressing growth and profit objectives. Meet with agency/MGA partner to agree on plan and establish strategy for upcoming year.

  •  On a quarterly basis, evaluate book performance, communicating profit levels of Program, identifying areas needing improvement and creating plans to address shortfalls.

  • Annually work with actuarial team to evaluate performance of portfolio to target combined ratio.  Shortfalls to and strategy to resolve to be communicated in annual planning meeting.

  • Drive the implementation of new and existing programs including development of underwriting guidelines, form/rate filings, compliance/regulatory matters, finance, reinsurance, claims, legal, accounting, actuarial and marketing matters.

  • Evaluate expansion opportunities for profitable growth with additional distribution partners.

  • Additional roles to support the team to include line of business product lead, underwriting audit, marketing, IT etc.

  • Mentorship and training of underwriting team members and support staff.

  • When working with MGA, responsible for regular audits of program to ensure compliance with company guidelines and state regulations.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Underwriting to ensure establishment of best underwriting practices that align with the overall strategy and performance of program business in addition to the performance of Amerisure as a whole.

  • Identify ongoing product needs and collaborate with appropriate product and actuary resources for implementation of same

  • Collaborate with Reinsurance team to ensure program business has proper reinsurance capacity and may include identifying effective evaluation of concentration of values and catastrophic exposures.  Also when necessary establish quota share agreements to protect bottom line and provide needed Umbrella capacity.

  • Participate in MGA/agency visits and in servicing the MGA/agency relationship, facilitating communication between the MGA/agency and Amerisure service team to obtain information necessary for screenings, transactions, resolving policy and billing issues, etc.

  • Collaborate with service team to support and advance the program business strategy, ensuring adherence to the service model and promoting a strong customer service focus.

  • Collaboration with Claims Department in conducting regular claim reviews with MGA/agency and continued communication with claims adjusters to ensured consistent and effective claim handling practices.

  • Collaboration with risk management to assist in developing and implementing loss control and risk management strategies.

  • Order and screen miscellaneous reports in the rating and underwriting process such as Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs), loss runs, credit scores, loss control inspections, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work-related experience.

  • Minimum 7 years multi-line commercial middle market insurance underwriting experience.

  • CPCU designation preferred.

  • Property expertise is a plus.

  • Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to lead discussions, perform quarterly review of program business, and build and conduct presentations.

  • Strong financial, data, and analytical acumen including ability to interpret and analyze program business data at a portfolio level including identifying trends and areas for improvement.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • Ability to travel within assigned area (minimum of 1 MGA/agency visit and 1 team meeting per quarter and 1 program -related event annually)
