STUDENT ACCOUNT CLERK (Administrative)



JOB TITLE: STUDENTS ACCOUNTS CREDIT AND COLLECTIONS CLERK

                        DEPT: Business and Finance

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Director of Student Accounts, the Student Account Clerk is responsible for the collection activity for the college not limited to: contacting students to collect outstanding balances. The Collections Coordinator is an extension of the Office of Controller and may be called upon to assist with other responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Receive payments and issue receipts for student accounts and submit reports.
  • Receive payments and issue receipts for all non-student related payments
  • Send monthly billing statements to students.
  • Maintain and enforce payment plans
  • Monitor overdue accounts and follow up with students/parents via phone, email and mail.
  • Disburse balances after aid disbursements
  • Preparing collection correspondence
  • Maintain accurate records of all students' accounts receivables
  • Protects Lane College by keeping confidential information.
  • Work in collaboration with team to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits and active participation in the organization's mission and values.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.  Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting or related field of equivalent combination of education and experience in student financial services, collections or accounts receivables.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to prepare correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic mathematic functions.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and the job-related software, a keyboard, calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, shredder, etc.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
