Electronics Technician (Engineering)

The Electronics Technician is responsible for the soldering, assembly, testing, and inspection of electronic devices and components to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards. This role involves performing in-process inspections, loading firmware, conducting functional testing of assembled units, cables, and components, and disassembling, modifying, reworking, and reassembling production and prototype assemblies. The Electronic Technician is expected to work independently, efficiently, and in accordance with safety and quality standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

Assembly and Manufacturing

  • Assemble electronic components into sub-assemblies or complete units based on manufacturing documentation (drawings, work instructions, travelers).
  • Follow IPC-610 and IPC-620 quality standards during assembly and soldering.
  • Assemble wiring harnesses, connectors, and mechanical parts as required.
  • Solder precision electro-mechanical equipment, wiring harnesses, and PCB assemblies to IPC-A-610 Class 3 standards.

Testing and Quality Control

  • Perform functional testing on assembled devices, cables, and components to verify proper operation.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure all assemblies meet or exceed engineering specifications.
  • Load firmware onto devices and perform basic troubleshooting of hardware and firmware issues.
  • Identify defects or issues in the assembly process and implement corrective actions as needed.

Rework and Modification
Disassemble, modify, rework, and reassemble production or prototype assemblies and sub-assemblies according to product specifications.
Ensure all rework processes meet quality standards, and document changes during rework procedures.

Collaboration and Documentation

  • Work with engineers and production teams to address issues, improve processes, and ensure that quality standards are met.
  • Complete required production and quality-related documentation, maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with other teams to support ongoing production and address any issues or changes in assembly procedures.

Health, Safety, and Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, including Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety when handling sensitive components.
  • Follow guidelines for cleanliness and workplace organization.

Performance Metrics

  • Execute daily functions with key performance metrics in mind, including safety, quality, productivity, and schedule.
  • Continuously improve assembly processes and contribute to achieving customer satisfaction.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work overtime as needed to meet production goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide feedback for process improvements.

Complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors or managers.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field (preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electronics assembly or a related field.
  • Experience with assembly of electronic devices, wiring harnesses, and connectors.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (610, 620) for electronic assemblies and wire harnesses.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting manufacturing drawings, work orders, and technical documentation.
  • Skilled in manual soldering and assembly techniques, following IPC-610 standards.
