Finance Data Governance, Vice President (Finance)

As part of our continued commitment to regulatory compliance and data integrity, we are seeking a seasoned Vice President, Finance Data Governance to lead the design and execution of governance practices aligned to BCBS 239 and the firm's Enterprise Data Governance Policy.

Position Summary

The VP, Finance Data Governance will serve as a key leader within State Street's Finance function, responsible for ensuring compliance with BCBS 239 principles and driving the execution of Finance's data governance strategy. This role will act as a bridge between Finance, Technology, Risk, Enterprise Data Governance (EDG), and other data teams to ensure Finance data is trusted, well-governed, and audit ready.

This role will be based in Boston and will report to the VP, Data Governance Lead, within Global Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Finance Data Governance Framework across State Street's Finance function, ensuring compliance with BCBS 239 principles, including data aggregation and risk reporting.
  • Partner with State Street's Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) and Chief Data Officer (CDO) functions to align Finance data governance to firm-wide policies and control expectations.
  • Responsible for establishing data ownership, quality standards, and escalation procedures for critical Finance data domains (e.g., General Ledger, Balance Sheet, Capital, Liquidity).
  • Support the Finance and Financial Risk Data Committee and related working groups, representing Finance in cross-functional governance efforts.
  • Implement and monitor Finance data quality metrics, KPIs, and controls in collaboration with EDG and Technology.
  • Support and maintain metadata, data lineage, and data issue management processes using enterprise tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica).
  • Ensure accurate documentation of Finance critical data elements (CDEs), control points, and data flows to support regulatory reporting (e.g., FR Y-9C, 14A/M, Basel, LCR, NSFR).
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal audit, operational risk, and regulatory exams related to Finance data governance and BCBS 239 compliance.
  • Drive data literacy and governance awareness across the Finance organization through training, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications and Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in Finance, Risk, Regulatory Reporting, or Data Governance within the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth understanding of BCBS 239 principles and practical experience implementing governance programs to meet regulatory expectations.
  • Prior experience with U.S. regulatory reporting, including FR Y-9C, FFIEC, Basel III, or similar, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in matrixed organizations, building consensus and leading across global teams.
  • Experience with enterprise data tools such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica, and data quality reporting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of data management frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBOK), data risk, and finance systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with executive stakeholders, internal auditors, and regulators.
  • Ability to understand data models, taxonomy and deep appreciation of data standards and data quality
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities required to interpret data flows and dictionary documentation
  • Strong project management skills to ensure progress is made in line with project plans
  • Must have strong self-motivational skills with ability to drive results
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Data Management, Accounting, or related field required; MBA, CPA, or data governance certification (e.g., CDMP) a plus.
