San Diego Dual DiagnosisNon-Public School is a specialized educational placement for students with Developmental Disabilities and Serious Emotional Disturbance. Its purpose is to maximize the students level of academic and community functioning, enabling them to engage in a pattern of everyday living similar to that of typical peers. A key objective of the program is increasing the students ability to succeed in a less restrictive school environment, reduced structure and increased independence.
In addition to the special education portion of the program, this Fred Finch non-public school has the capacity to provide mental health day treatment services for qualified students. The school provides a safe, stable, and highly structured environment by combining intensive staffing, a therapeutic milieu culture, mental health interventions, behavior modification, and a positive peer environment.

What You Will Do
The Instructional Aide is responsible for assisting the Education Specialist (Teacher)with classroom activities involving youth and to work with youth giving positive reinforcement and setting achievable academic and behavioral goals. The Instructional Aide may teach in the absence of the Teacher (if they possess a Substitute Teacher Credential).
Shifts Available
Full-Time, Non-Exempt. Schedule TBD

What You Bring to The Table (requirements):

B.A.or B.S. Degree required.Passingscore on the CBEST (The California Basic Educational Skills Test)within 6 months of employment, if hired after December 1, 2007.Demonstratedculturalresponsivenessin working with diverse families and communities, and supportive responsiveness to youth who may have experienced traumaDemonstratedunderstanding of the developmental milestones of the populationDemonstratedexperiencein academic coaching, teaching, or tutoring, preferably with youth with specialAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of aBasiccomputer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and/or competency with electronic clinical documentationCleandriving record; current CA Drivers License or ability to obtain within 10 days after
Preferred
B.A.or B.S. Degree in social science field or educationA minimum of one year of experience in residential treatment, special education, or relatedExperiencewith intellectually disabled and/or emotionally disturbed
