Lead Diesel Mechanic (Austin) (Finance)

Position Summary

The Lead Mechanic supervises, directs, and performs mechanical work on vehicles and equipment. The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of a fleet, ensuring safety standards are met, and maintaining accurate records. Lead Mechanics also provide guidance to other mechanics and often act as a subject matter expert in their field.

Key Responsibilities/Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • A two-year certificate from college or technical school is preferred. Trade School or related mechanical / technical certification.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED required
  • Minimum 10 years Mobile Equipment Maintenance Experience, Ready Mix Maintenance Experience, preferred
  • Extensive experience in truck and / or heavy equipment maintenance and repair, including diesels, hydraulic systems and electrical systems
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) and safe driving record preferred

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other automotive systems to perform repair work
  • Basic welding skills
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • 40 hours per week and overtime on an as needed basis

Work Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.
  • Must be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Must be able to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions, extreme heat and cold.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the qualifications of the fleet safety program, CDL preferred.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.

  • Work requires the ability to lift a maximum of 100 lbs.
  • Work requires the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Work requires the ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet
  • Work requires the ability to perform sustained overhead reaching
  • Work requires the ability to use vibration tools
  • Work requires the ability to perform work white lying on back tar for prolonged periods of time and in some cases cramped quarters
  • Work requires the ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels
  • Work is performed 50% outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather and 50% indoors
