Maintenance / Safety Trainer (Biotech)



Safety & Maintenance Level Trainer
Position Summary
Sustainable Beef is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Safety & Maintenance Level Trainer to lead the development and delivery of training programs that promote workplace safety skills for both production and maintenance personnel, as well as foundational maintenance skills for maintenance personnel. This role is critical in supporting a safe, skilled, and compliant workforce in a dynamic beef processing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Training Program Development & Delivery

Develop, implement, and update training programs for:

Maintenance fundamentals (basic mechanical and electrical safety, preventative maintenance techniques)

Equipment-specific procedures and safe operation

Conduct classroom sessions, hands-on instruction, and on-the-floor coaching for new hires and experienced team members

Adapt training materials for varied literacy levels and multiple languages as needed

Safety Leadership & Support

Reinforce safety culture through daily interactions, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning support

Observe work areas and tasks to identify training needs and safety gaps

Documentation & Evaluation

Maintain accurate training records in accordance with company policy and regulatory standards

Assess trainee performance and document skill verification through checklists, quizzes, or competency demonstrations

Participate in audits and inspections as a training subject matter expert

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Maintenance and Operations teams to align training with operational needs

Support the rollout of new equipment or procedures by developing and delivering associated training

Collaborate with HR and Safety to schedule training and onboard new employees

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in industrial safety, technical training, or maintenance roles (preferably in a food processing or manufacturing environment)

Strong understanding of OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space, electrical safety, and other relevant safety regulations

Working knowledge of maintenance concepts, tools, and equipment (mechanical and/or electrical)

Experience in training program development and delivery; bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to engage employees at all skill levels and promote a culture of continuous improvement

Work Conditions

This position requires frequent work in production and maintenance areas, which may involve exposure to noise, temperature variations, and moving equipment.

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs during demonstrations or instruction.
