Speech - Language Pathologist (Healthcare)




BASIC FUNCTION: Participates as the Speech-Language Pathologist on the interdisciplinary team. The Speech-Language Pathologist designs and provides speech and language services to support the communication needs of students through planning, goal setting, direct, therapeutic treatment, consultation and collaboration, and completion of information and documentation within the evaluation and IEP processes.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Implements assessment/treatment/care based on students individual needs



  • Evaluates student progress utilizing techniques appropriate to the student



  • Completes progress notes after each session as well as notes for quarterly report cards



  • Develops, administers and instructs students in performance of functional communication and use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Assistive Technology



  • Plans, assesses the effectiveness, and modifies as necessary, plans and supports in accordance with students demonstrated needs



  • Communicates and works in cooperation with families, educators and therapists, nursing staff, and other providers to ensure effective, therapeutic care and optimal student outcomes.



  • Collaborates effectively with teachers, staff, and families to support students functional communication and educational outcomes.



  • Maintains an assigned caseload, develops short and long-term goals for each student, designs individualized, therapeutic programs, and works in concert with the team to encourage highest level of independence.



  • Prepares case notes, progress reports, and other documentation on individual students, authorizes necessary services, ascertains progress, and identifies diagnostic and functional needs.



  • Participates in the development of new methods for instructional techniques specifically designed for our students who may be blind or visually impaired, and inclusive of students who process life with a disability profile inclusive of autism, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury disability, multiple disabilities, developmental disabilities, orthopedic disability and other health disability.



  • Maintains confidential records inclusive of case files, progress notes and other documentation and client confidentiality in all aspects of the school.



  • Performs all duties at a level of satisfactory or above.



SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Required)
  • ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) (Required unless completing clinical fellowship year)
  • Current Illinois Licensure (SLP Teaching or SLP Non-teaching)
  • Temporary Illinois Teacher Licensure (only if completing clinical fellowship year)
  • C.P.R. certification (Preferred)
  • Experience with high, moderate, and low tech AAC and AT devices and supports (Preferred)
  • Two or more years of experience working on an interdisciplinary team in coordination of care and team supports (Preferred)
  • Experience working with pediatric and school age population (Preferred)
  • Excellent communication, consultation, and collaboration skills
