Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Family Medicine (Finance)

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at UTHealth Houston is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to focus on childhood health outcomes, environmental exposures, and substance use disorder research. This position offers the opportunity to work within the NIH-supported Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, collaborating with leading scientists on the effects of environmental exposures on early childhood development. Mentored by Dr. Thomas Northrup, the fellow will contribute to epidemiology, maternal and infant health, environmental health, and substance use research, with access to grant writing workshops and career development support. Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in environmental health research, epidemiology, psychology, or a related field.

Position Summary:

A postdoctoral research fellow position in environmental exposure and substance use disorder research offers early-career researchers the opportunity to contribute to impactful studies on childhood health outcomes. The fellow will work within the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program and related projects, gaining experience in epidemiology, environmental health, and substance use disorder research.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Conducts research on environmental exposures (e.g., physical/chemical, lifestyle-related, psychosocial, human milk feeding) and their impact on childhood health outcomes.
  • Participates in the NIH-supported ECHO Program and the NIDA Clinical Trials Network study "Co-Care" addressing polysubstance use in primary care.
  • Assists with study management, field work, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation for ECHO, Co-Care, and other projects.
  • Submits concept and analysis proposals and presents findings at local and national conferences.
  • Engages in educational activities including team meetings, workshops on grant writing, and individualized career development.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and communicates effectively with researchers and stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • Doctoral/Terminal Degree

Physical Requirements:
  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
