Manager of Research Financial Operations (Finance)



Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Manager, Research Accounting and Finance to join our Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to the Senior Director of MAPRI, the Manager, Research Accounting and Finance will lead the financial operations for research accounting across MAPRI. You will oversee federal financial reporting, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, manage the research accounting team, and coordinate month-end close activities with MAPMG General Accounting.

You can expect to:

  • Develop and implement financial reporting systems and processes for research-related activities
  • Prepare monthly financial packages, federal reports, and variance analyses
  • Partner with research administration, MAPMG accounting teams, and interregional research networks
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on federal regulatory compliance, GAAP, and grants management
  • Lead and mentor the research accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Oversee month-end close processes, general ledger reconciliations, and invoice reviews
  • Administer systems related to research accounting, including the PeopleSoft Grants Management Suite

What is required:
  • Master's degree in accounting or business administration from an accredited institution is required
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in research accounting is required
  • Substantial experience with federal grants, Uniform Guidance (UG), and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • CPA (or CPA in progress) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with PeopleSoft Grants Management Suite preferred
  • Must demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. office a minimum of one (1) day per week on a hybrid schedule
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $132,848.90 to $166,060.95, depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
