Yard Operator (Ties) Operates machinery and/or performs tasks used in the production yard by performing the following duties:
Principal Responsibilities:
Yard Operator I:
Peeler (Operates the pole shaver and related system components in a productive, efficient and safe manner)
Mobile Equipment Operator 1 (Operates wheel loader or forklifts)
Scaler/Inspector (Responsible for inspection, grading, and manufacturing of barkies and shaved poles for inventory)
Yard Operator II:
Peeler (Operates the pole shaver and related system components in a productive, efficient and safe manner)
Mobile Equipment Operator 2 (Operates wheel loader or forklifts)
Scaler/Inspector (Responsible for inspection, grading, and manufacturing of barkies and shaved poles for inventory)
Yard Operator III:
Framer (Manufacture round stock products to established specifications in a productive, efficient and safe manner)
Assistant Pole Scaler/Inspector (Assist in inspection, grading, and manufacturing of barkies and shaved poles for inventory.
All Yard Operator Positions:
Participates and contributes to company safety program.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Wheel loader/heavy equipment operator experience required for Mobile Equipment Operators: Wood products experience preferred.
License/Certification: Yard Operator I and II: Mobile Equipment certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of pole yard equipment.
ANSI standards (Framer)
Forest products experience - knowledge of species, defects, etc. (Peeler, Scaler/Inspector)
Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
