Aquatics Director (Finance)



POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. This position will be responsible for overseeing the Aquatics department and all related programs. This position may also serve as a program director for non-aquatics programs as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Hire, train, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatics staff Plan prepare and deliver safe, quality Aquatic Programs for youth and adults Hold regular in-service trainings for all Aquatic Staff Assists pool maintenance & repair as needed Implement and enforce YMCA policies and procedures Assist in planning and preparing brochures and program/facility schedules Prepare, develop and control budget for Aquatic departments Evaluate program/s on a regular basis eliminating and adding programs to fit needs of the community Support and work with swim team(s) Develop a positive public image through innovative aquatic programs that have impact in the community Maintain current certifications for self and staff Engage and support volunteer involvement Effective problem solving with timely follow through Develop staff schedule and ensure all shifts are covered Promptly return voicemails and emails within 24 business hours. Purchase equipment and supplies for department (work within allocated budget) Participate in staff meetings and association events Serves on Director on Duty rotation Actively serve and participate in the Association Aquatics Focus Group team Host quarterly First Aid/CPR Certification Classes. Engage with members and program participants; Collecting at least 1 member impact story per year Ensure the safety of staff and members using guidance from federal, state, and local agencies, along with YMCA and Insurance provider risk management standards. Support and assist branch leadership with any other projects or activities including Annual Support Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent Preferred Prior experience in working in Aquatics and Supervision Demonstrate strong people skills, organizational and administrative skills Experience in program development, work with volunteers, financial development and customer service Certified American Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard Certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen (preferred) American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification or equivalent (preferred) YSLI or WSI preferred (preferred) Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to be in the pool for extended periods of time (varying warm to cool water temperatures) Must be able to communicate verbally to groups and individuals in and out of the pool area. Ability to think in abstract, problem solve, remember and reconstruct. Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift or assist a distressed swimmer. Sit/stand for extended periods of time in a warm, humid environment Recognize distress signals through sight and sound in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
