Lead Field Technician (Transformer Decommission) (Construction)



The Lead Field Technician (Transformer Decommission) is responsible for overseeing and executing the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible decommissioning of power transformers and related electrical equipment in the field. This position requires technical knowledge of high-voltage systems, experience in field operations, and leadership capabilities to guide a crew through dismantling and removal activities in accordance with company procedures, regulatory guidelines, and client specifications:
Lead and perform the decommissioning of power transformers and associated electrical equipment (e.g., bushings, radiators, tap changers, oil).Ensure all activities comply with safety protocols, environmental regulations (such as PCB handling), and client standards.Supervise and coordinate field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators on-site.Conduct site assessments and job hazard analyses prior to commencing work.Plan and organize tools, materials, permits, and transportation logistics required for each project.Drain and process transformer oil (mineral oil or other dielectric fluids) for disposal or recycling per environmental guidelines.Dismantle and prepare transformer components for removal, salvage, or disposal.Operate and troubleshoot equipment such as vacuum pumps, oil processing rigs, and lifting equipment.Complete accurate and timely documentation, including decommissioning reports, oil samples, equipment condition reports, and disposal manifests.Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and support teams throughout the project lifecycle.Train and mentor junior technicians and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
