Position: Lead Process Assistant

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Shift: Rotating Dupont Schedule (rotates from days to nights with days off in between)

Pay: $32/hour

Under direction of Production Supervisor, plans, prioritizes, assigns, oversees, inspects, and evaluates the work of laboring crews engaged in various types of general labor and maintenance work, including, but not limited to, debris removal, clean up, yard work, warehouse, quarry, production, maintenance, shipping and material handling. As a working leadman, will be required to perform some of the duties assigned to staff. Requires responsibility for explaining, carrying out, and enforcing work methods and procedures0; efficient and safe utilization of tools, safety devices, and motorized and other equipment; and maintaining simple records of operations.

What you'll be contributing:

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines
  • Over sees Laborers by planning, assigning, monitoring, instructing work assignments to full completion.
  • Schedules and communicates daily assignments of laborers and determines daily work schedule to implement plans.
  • Obtains appropriate tools, materials, supplies and equipment and ensures they are available when needed.
  • Makes routine equipment checks for proper operation.
  • Ensures that daily workplace inspections and pre-shift equipment inspections are completed.
  • Provides instruction and/or participates in the removal and clean-up of debris resulting from production, or repair work around grounds, sidewalks, and building areas.
  • Supervises and/or participates in the operation of pneumatic and hand tools, including jackhammers, chipping guns, and tampers, used in construction or maintenance operations (may include using a hand level).
  • Ensures that Laborers safely operate and properly complete mobile equipment checklists for front end loaders, skid steer loaders, haul trucks, vacuum trucks, and forklifts and any other equipment used within the plant.
  • Occasionally operates or supervises employees responsible for the operation of tractors with attachments, and trucks performing related grounds keeping duties; schedules maintenance on equipment.
  • Prepares written reports and records including accident/injury reports, daily work reports and other reports and correspondence; keeps attendance records; performs mathematical calculations to determine area, costs, hours, etc.
  • Enforces practice of safe work procedures and use of safety equipment and PPE's (personal protective equipment); wears appropriate safety protective equipment and follows all plant safety policies.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided Ability to assign, review work of, and instruct a large group of subordinates.
  • Ability to return to work during non-business hours in emergency situations and to perform work on a scheduled stand-by assignment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in laboring work.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and operate related complex power equipment.
  • Cement Manufacturing -- Knowledge of raw materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining, production, shipping and packaging of cement.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment used, machines and tools, including their uses, repair of, and maintenance.
  • Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of the technology used and manufacturing of cement. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of cement.
  • Environmental - Knowledge of proper allocation of waste material.

What to expect in a cement environment

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
