Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
A Certified Nursing Assistant's primary responsibility is to assist patients with their daily activities. While some CNAs may have additional responsibilities such as administering medication the core functions of a CNA on the job include: bathing and dressing patients. taking vital signs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Bathing and dressing patients
Taking vital signs
Collecting information about conditions and treatment plans from caregivers, nurses, and doctors
Answering patient calls
Examining patients for bruises and other injuries/wounds
Turning or repositioning bedridden patients
Lifting patients into beds, wheelchairs or exam tables
Cleaning and sanitizing patient areas
Provide and empty bedpans
Changing sheets and restocking rooms with necessary supplies
Bathing and dressing patients

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Utilizes listening skills that indicate understanding and promotes accurate interpretation of others concerns, motivations, and feelings.
Recognizes the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accepts strengths and limitations in others.

Recognizes when others require information, assistance or direction and consistently offers and provides help.

Regularly reads and appropriately applies information to practice.

Acknowledges others verbally and nonverbally (eye contact, expression, tone of voice) promptly and courteously.
Follows appropriate phone etiquette.

EDUCATION:
High School Degree or GED
Current and valid Nursing Aide certification
Current CPR Certification

EXPERIENCE:
Certified by the state as a Nursing aide.
Successful completion of a nurse aide course that meets federal/state requirements.
Takes oral and written instruction well.
Works in a team responsibly and independently without direct supervision.
Good communication skills.
Knowledge and Abilities:
o Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to and communicate with primarily the geriatric population, and to a lesser degree the pediatric and adult populations.
o Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
o Able to assess data reflecting the clients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each clients requirements relative to their age-specific needs

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Valid drivers license
Must be able to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and evenings
