Bakehouse BAKE! Instructor (Food Services)
Is willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays or as needed as business dictates. We teach all day on Saturdays and Sundays and generally two evenings each week plus other daytime classes
Full time position, 32-40 hours per week, as the schedule dictates
Teaches minimum of 5-6 classes weekly
Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Lead and/or assist in a minimum of 5-6 classes per week which are scheduled for weekday afternoons/evenings and during the day on weekends
Supervisory responsibility for an assistant and dishwasher while leading a class
Over time learns to teach all of our classes (approx. 60)
Works independently in a classroom setting
Provides the Zingerman's Service Experience and Service Expectations to students and co-workers (as taught in our Zingerman's Orientation Classes)
Prepare written materials, recipes, timelines, ingredients and bakery space for classes (training provided)
Potentially works with guest chefs/bakers to develop content and materials for either a demonstration class or a hands on class
Demonstrate strong teamwork, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to break complex concepts down to an appropriate level for students.
Possess a knowledge of baking science from the performance and functionality of ingredients, how the ingredients change in an oven environment and how to bake
Loves ongoing learning and personal development
Help train teaching assistants and dishwashers
Attend weekly BAKE! meetings and assist in making department decisions
Becomes an active participant in Zingerman's Bakehouse
Physical Requirements:
Lift 50 pounds
Stand for many hours at a time
Can teach for 8 hours in a day
The Success Patterns for this position are:
Minimum 5 years of professional baking experience in both breads and pastries and/or experience in teaching or co-teaching baking classes
Leadership experience preferred
Public speaking experience and excellent communication skills
Formal or informal experience in teaching and training
Enjoys providing impeccable, unexpected and over-the-top service to guests
Enjoys working in a collaborative work environment
Loves great food - to make it, share it and eat it

Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.
